Guided Tour of the
Roof
The cathedral is a perfect example of Gothic architecture. However, not all of its components date back to the Middle Ages. The cathedral was completed during the Industrial Revolution.
Nowhere is this more evident than on a guided tour of the cathedral’s rooftops. Expecting a historic wooden roof truss? Prepare to be surprised by a delicate iron structure that is older than the Eiffel Tower. High above the city, explore little-known tower rooms housing the cathedral workshop’s storerooms and workshops. And be awestruck by one of the most spectacular views Cologne has to offer.

Public Tours

Group tours
Duration: approx. 90 minutes
Group price: €270 (+ €10 surcharge for foreign languages; the language can be selected at the time of booking)
The maximum group size is 12 people. If there are more participants, please book a second tour. Tours can be booked for the current month and the following three months, but must be booked at least 14 days in advance.
Suitable only for those who are not afraid of heights. There are approximately 240 steps to climb via a historic, narrow staircase without a handrail. Use of the construction lift cannot be guaranteed. Due to ongoing work in the special areas, tours of the High Roof start from 4.00 pm only on Mondays to Fridays (until 6.30 pm, latest start time). On Saturdays, tours run between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm.
Participants must be aged 16 or over. No exceptions are permitted (even when accompanied by a parent or guardian).
